Lunik IX in Kosice, Slovakia

A child is playing at the Lunik IX housing estate which is home of the largest Roma community in Slovakia. On the left side a decript building, on the right a new housing complex standing on a place where one of the older buildings was demolished. The community is located a few kilometers away from the historical city centre, on the outskirts of the eastern Slovakian city of Kosice. Since the beginning of the 1980s a large number of the Roma residents living in the city and in nearby settlements have been moved to Lunik IX. Lunik IX has officially 6542 registered (12/2015) inhabitants and almost all of them are of Roma ethnicity.
