Lunik IX in Kosice, Slovakia

Children carry their shopping up the crumbling concete stairs at the high-rise building "Hrebenova 34-36" which was in appalling condition and demolished in August 2014 by the city of Kosice. The Lunik IX estate is almost entirely populated by Roma and living conditions for the residents are appalling, many people do not have electricity, water or gas. 95 percent of former residents had no rental contract and thus no right for a compensatory flat. A new shanty village, populated by such families, is growing beside Lunik IX
