Rankovce: “From Shack into a 3E House”

Evening light in the Roma part at the village of Rankovce in Slovakia. The foundation ETP Slovakia is working in Rankovce and setting up micro-loan funds for the local Roma community. Self-construction helps to demolish stereotyped views about people from socially excluded communities, whom the majority population regards as abusers of social benefits, socially dependent, incapable, passive and constantly reliant upon state assistance. The approach gives people the opportunity to take care of themselves.
